In the case of the eight-year-old Rike, it was actually a last-minute rescue. The WDR program “Animals are looking for a home” and the associated Instagram channel reported on their sad fate on June 4th.

Rike’s mistress has died

Rike, who also shared a home with a cat, was found next to her dead owner earlier this year. The bitch went without water and food for about a week before she was discovered “completely dehydrated and almost starving.” It was “just in time” to save her life. The cat survived too.

Nurtured at the vet clinic

The traumatized dog first had to be treated in a veterinary clinic for two weeks in order to be fit enough for life in the shelter. After that she came to the animal shelter in Marl and is now waiting to find a safe and loving new home.

Rike’s soul needs to heal

The animal rescuers have pointed out that the dog is physically healthy, but has not yet overcome the bad experiences. That’s why she needs a lot of love and security. She was “lovable and nice”, but new situations would quickly overwhelm her. However, once settled in, she would be an easygoing family dog.

Rike has problems with cats

There shouldn’t be any cats in Rike’s new home. Apparently her previous coexistence with a velvet paw was not very harmonious.

On Instagram it is said that she is still irritated by new circumstances. Therefore, a “quiet home with structure” would be important for the pretty three-colored dog lady, especially in the early days. But other dogs, like older children, are no obstacle to a happy new life.
