Sheila (75) was adopted in Great Britain in 1946 as a toddler. She never received detailed information about her biological parents from her adoptive parents during their lifetime. But thanks to a DNA test and the efforts of her daughter-in-law, she found out decades later that she has a half-sister named Annie (78) who lives in the Netherlands. Sheila was born just a few years before Sheila and had the same father – a Canadian soldier who, as it later turned out, helped liberate the Netherlands from the Nazis.

Because Annie also had her DNA data stored in the database, the lost sisters were able to get in touch through their respective children. A FaceTime call was arranged in May 2022, followed by a face-to-face meeting in the Netherlands the following month.

Emotional reunion after 75 years

Sheila told Wales Online after meeting: “It was like looking in the mirror and talking to myself. We have the same hobbies and the same medical conditions, it’s very strange – we look a lot alike. ” And not just because both sisters showed up to the meeting in blue tops.

And Annie says: “Although the language was a problem – I don’t speak English very well – it felt very natural to see and speak to my sister after all these years. It’s great to finally meet Sheila.” So it goes without saying that the two definitely want to stay in touch.
