Her dog helped Megan Marshall through her tough teenage years. 16 years later she thanks her pet with a touching deed.
The dog is man’s best friend – the British Megan Marshall (32) is also convinced of that. When she was 15, she had her dog, Labrador Retriever Sasha, who changed her life. Taking to Instagram, Meghan describes her old self as a “struggling teenager with crippling anxiety and agoraphobia. I hadn’t left the house in six months and the doctors diagnosed me with OCD.” Until Sasha walked into her life and completely changed it – for the better.
But after 16 years, her deep connection with the dog was put to the test because of her illness. But Megan gave her “soul bitch” an incredible gift.
“Bucket list” for demented bitch: Mistress gave up her job for it
It was revealed last year that the Labrador suffered from dementia, as well as other illnesses attributed to her advanced age. It was clear that soon Sasha could no longer walk, in the worst case he could be paralyzed. The step that her mistress then took seems drastic at first, but it was probably what humans and animals needed at the time: Megan Marshall gave up her job and created a “bucket list” – a list of things that she wanted to experience together before the dog died.
Photo shoots, celebrity meetings, TV appearances: at the end of her life, the dog Sasha became internationally known
The dog lover explained her decision to “independent.co.uk” as follows: “I have always struggled with my mental health. The business that I ran also challenged me mentally and Sasha’s health continued to deteriorate. It was very difficult, this one juggling both things, so I closed my shop and decided to work on myself and give her the time she needs.” People and animals packed their things and went out into the world: the program included school visits, waterfall adventures, castle tours, a professional photo shoot, celebrity meetings, TV appearances and participation in a dog show where Sasha took first place.
Sasha became a “big sister”: more security and orientation through puppies
Megan shares her adventures with her dog on Instagram. Actually, the 32-year-old didn’t think that Sasha would last long, but the old Labrador lady literally blossomed: “Now we’re on the journey and creating memories. An impaired (and proud) adult with her impaired (and happy) dog . We prove it to people and inspire them that you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.” Back home, Sasha even became a “big sister” when her mistress took in the golden retriever puppy Skyla. Through the “little sister” the demented bitch always had an orientation – even if her mistress almost never left her side.
Megan’s final farewell to her “soul dog” Sasha
The adventure certainly helped Sasha live much longer than the doctors predicted. But in October 2022 the time had come, Megan had to say “goodbye” to her faithful partner forever. The memories of her remain present, especially through these special last few months – and inspire others. At least that’s what the 32-year-old Briton, who will never forget her “soul dog”, is hoping for.
